MBI's Brandon Culbreth Selected By Houston Astros


MBI Sports Management Client and Forsyth Country Day School alumnus Brandon Culbreth (Class of 2011) has been drafted in the 8th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft, by the Houston Astros.
Culbreth, who helped lead the Furies to their first ever NCISAA state championship this spring, was the 250th overall pick in the draft. Culbreth was drafted by the Astros as a right handed pitcher.
The 6'4" Culbreth played third base and outfield for FCDS. He is the first FCDS alumnus ever drafted by a Major League team. Mike Baker and Mike Mertz of MBI Sports Management had this to say about Culbreth; "We are "extremely excited and proud of Brandon and his accomplishments. He is a player who will definitely not rest on his laurels and we expect "B" to just get continually better."

Orioles Minor Leaguer Signs with MBI


Greensboro, NC - Baltimore Orioles minor league pitcher Kenny Moreland has signed with MBI Sports Management. The 2008 Division III Pitcher of Year out of Christopher Newport University signed as a free agent with the Orioles in June of the same year. In three seasons with the Orioles, Moreland has played for four of the team’s affiliates, including the Bluefield Orioles, Aberdeen Ironbirds, Delmarva Shorebirds, and Fredrick Keys.

Mike Baker, owner of MBI Sports Management, says of Moreland, “I’m excited to have Kenny sign on as a client of MBI. He possesses the skills and work ethic to pitch successfully at a high level for a long time.” Over his first three seasons, Moreland has logged a total of 318.2 innings, yielding only 39 walks during that time. Working almost exclusively as a starter, he has won 25 games during his minor league career.

GREENSBORO, NC - Chicago Cubs minor league pitcher Corey Martin signed with MBI Sports Management on January 19, 2011. A former Forbush High School and Western Carolina University standout, Martin was drafted by the Cubs with their 27th round pick in the 2009 draft.

In speaking of his new relationship with MBI, Martin says he is “extremely excited about working with Mike Baker and the MBI Sports Management Team; their resources will help me achieve my dream of making the major leagues. Beatty's RBI Single in the Seventh lifts Palm Beach over Jupiter

Jupiter, FL- The Palm Beach Cardinals (75-65, 36-34) beat the Jupiter Hammerheads (46-92, 24-46) today at Roger Dean Stadium by a score of 2-1. C.J. Beatty's RBI single off of Johnny Dorn (4-12) in the seventh inning broke the 1-1 tie and propelled the Cardinals to a series victory over the Hammerheads.
